Total Brakes new "Aerokit" 996 performed better then expectations at the Pine Mountain Hillclimb sanctioned by the SCCA. The new car features Total Brakes supplied Girodisc rotors front and rear along with Carbotech pre-bedded XP-8 pads.
The Pine Mountain course located in Pineville, KY proved challenging at just over 2 miles with 800 feet in elevation gain. You might not think brakes play that big of a role in hill climb racing, but you would be wrong. There are several 75MPH straight aways into first gear corners- including a haybale chicane surrounded by a stone bridge (!). Having a brake pad that can handle these unusual circumstances is important to setting a course record. We took our unique challenge to Mike - the chief engineer at Carbotech for a recommendation and advice. Mike's recommended XP-8 pads, pre bedded to ensure we did not experience any "green pad fade" on the hill. This decision make our braking concerns when barreling into the hairpins at 75+MPH a non-event.
